Centralized Dam Monitoring & Reporting for UJVNL's Dam Sites

How Itanta's Core Platform gave UJVNL live visibility into water level, velocity, discharge, and weather data across its dam sites — from a single web-based platform

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) · Power & Utilities – Hydropower / Dam & Water Management

Challenge

UJVNL needed a centralized web-based system to monitor dam operational data — water level, velocity, discharge, battery voltage, and weather station parameters — and generate daily reports for dam safety, water management, and regulatory compliance.

Outcome

A web-based monitoring and reporting solution deployed in 2–4 weeks: 4 systems with 35 tags each, data logged every 5 minutes, live dashboards and structured reports accessible from one platform.

Industry: Power & Utilities – Hydropower / Dam & Water Management · Size: Large (10+ plants)

Introduction

Water dam reports are vital for ensuring dam safety, structural integrity, and environmental sustainability. They provide data related to structural health, environmental impact, water management, and regulatory compliance — helping minimize risks and maximize benefits.

Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), a large hydropower company with 10+ plants, needed a centralized web-based system to monitor dam operational data and generate daily reports. The team required visibility of important dam parameters such as dam level, velocity, voltage, discharge, and AWS weather parameters.

Itanta deployed a web-based monitoring and reporting solution on its Core Platform, fetching real-time data from the MS SQL database through the Itanta SQL Connector and DS Manager — delivered within a 2–4 week deployment timeline.

The Core Challenge Before Itanta

Dam safety and water management demanded centralized, always-current visibility

Highlights

From scattered, manual monitoring to a centralized, dashboard-based review process — deployed in just 2–4 weeks.

Solution Architecture

Dam Sensors & SCADA

Field sensors at the dam sites feed operational data — water level, velocity, discharge, battery voltage, and AWS weather parameters — into the SCADA system.

SQL Database & Itanta SQL Connector

SCADA data lands in the MS SQL database. The Itanta SQL Connector fetches real-time data with cyclic, 5-minute logging — 35 tags for each of the 4 systems.

DS Manager & Itanta Platform

DS Manager streams the connected data to the Itanta Platform, which serves live dashboards, historical trend graphs, and report tables in any standard web browser.

What Was Deployed

A web-based monitoring and reporting solution on the Itanta Core Platform

The solution fetched real-time data from the MS SQL database through the Itanta SQL Connector and DS Manager and displayed it on the Itanta Platform — live dashboards and reports for all key dam parameters.

Dashboards & Reports

Itanta delivered an Overview Dashboard plus structured report views, giving engineers and supervisors live values, historical graphs, and paginated report tables from a single web interface.

Measurable Outcomes

Centralized monitoring, automatic logging, and structured reporting from a single web-based platform

What Changed Day-to-Day for the Team

The team moved from scattered or manual monitoring toward a centralized, dashboard-based review process.
